Hi Alexei
I'd be very interested in seeing the one about the female cosmonauts. What format is it in ?? I am in the UK where we use PAL video, but I can view Region 5 Russian DVD's. I do have someone who can translate Russian commentary for me.
Look forward the hearing more.
Regards
Tony

Tony,
I have it as an AVI file on my computer. How's your connection - file is 240+MB, will you be able to download?
Cheers,
Alexei

Hi Alexei
It should be OK. My mailbox has a enough capacity, although I'm not sure if there may be a limit on individual e-mails.
If you could try, we'll see how it works out.
Please send to:-
tonyq@another.com
Perhaps you could also send me an empty e-mail first, or maybe post here so I know to look out for it.
Thanks again for your help - this looks like an excellent find and I can't wait to view it.
Cheers
Tony

Tony,
I don't think it's a good idea to send it via email... I will drop the file sometime today or tomorrow on my ftp and will give you the link in a private message on this board.
Cheers,
Alexei

I thought I'd resurrect this old thread to share this newly acquired image of Soviet test pilot Marina Popovicha, wife of cosmonaut Pavel Popovich wearing a GSH-6 helmet and associated pressure suit before a record breaking flight in a MIG-21. A career pilot, Marina had begun flying in her teens, soon after WW2, and she'd logged more hours than her husband, when he became a cosmonaut. When the Soviets began to seek female cosmonauts in early 1962, Marina who was now a test pilot, applied, confident that she would be chosen to be the first woman in space. Although she made it to the last dozen or so candidates, she was then told she had failed a medical review. She later found out she was excluded solely because she and Pavel had a young daughter and the authorities were uneasy about the prospect of launching a young mother into space. Marina Popovich put her disappointment behind her, and went on to set over 100 female aviation records in numerous aircraft types, from high performance fighters to military tranports and passenger jets. Now in her seventies, she is retired and living in Russia.

Good morning Does anyone have any information on record breaking female pilot, Natalya Prokhanova, who set a world altitude record back in 1965, when she flew to 79000ft. What type of suit and helmet did she wear, and what became of her after this feat ? Thanks Tony
