Hello,
you will notice that the left and right side of the pages are missing one "digit". If someone is interested, I can e-mail the pages in higher resolution. In that case send me a message.

trying to find something more about this subject on my bookshelf, I could only think of the two auction catalogues of Sotheby's from their russian space auctions in 1996. The only 2 things I could find: in some personal notes of general Karpov (he was the first head of cosmonaut training), he writes down (copies) what Tereshkova (the first female cosmonaut -Vostok 6 in 1963-) had written down in her application on january 10, 1962 to the cosmonaut course. . His notes starts however with the application of SOLONYEVA to the cosmonaut course....(and quickly moves on to Tereshkova's application)
The second mentioning is that only in 1987 four names of other woman in the program (back then in the sixties) came to light : T.D. Kuznetsova, V.L. Ponomareva, I.B. Soloveva and Z.D. Yorkina. During the press-meetings in the early 60's Tereshkova mentioned several times that she wasn't the only one... (weird that names only pop up 20 years later and that according to our forum-member Tonyq, the mystery isn't solved yet...)

monsum, Send higher resolution images to my email and I'll host them. Pictures are very interesting, but alas in this resolution are all but useless Text is also probably worth reading, but again due to low resolution and missing characters, it is an impossible task. Thanks, Alexei

Here is some information about the selection of Female Cosmonauts in January 1962 :-
The task of finding female candidates is given to DOSAAF (ALL-UNION VOLUNTARY SOCIETY FOR ASSISTANCE TO THE ARMY, AIR FORCE, AND NAVY). They are instructed to focus on unmarried women aged under 30, with some aviation experience, but not necessarily pilots. (in the event, some candidates were married, or older than 30, reflecting the difficulties which would be encountered finding enough suitable women). Therefore the records of hundreds of parachutists, flying instructors, sports pilots, aerobatic pilots and the entire national sky-diving team were scrutinised. In addition, DOSAAF 'spotters' were sent to visit aeroclubs to identify possible candidates from local records, and interview them – presumably without giving too much away. General Kamanin (Head of the Cosmonaut Team) hoped to find 100 candidates, but by mid-January they had only 58 names to consider. In some interviews, the successful women have indicated that they were approached in late 1961, suggesting that the selection process might have started, unofficially, before approval was received.
Entry from Kamanin's Diary 19th January 1962 '....yesterday I considered the files of 58 female candidates. Generally disappointed and dissatisfied. Majority are not suitable for our requirements and have been rejected. Only 23 will be brought to Moscow for Medical Tests. DOSAAF did not examine their credentials correctly. I told them I needed girls who were young, courageous, physically strong and with experience of a field of aviation, who we can prepare for a spaceflight in no more than 5/6 months. The central objective of this accelerated preparation is to ensure that Americans do not beat us to place the first woman into space...'
Of the 23 women brought to Moscow, either 4 or 5 failed the initial medical, and so only 17(or 18) went forward for further tests. Most of the unsuccessful candidates have now been identified :- Pilots Galina Korchuganova – aerobatic pilot – Champion of USSR and later World champion - Born 1935 – Died 2004
Marina Popovicha – test pilot – wife of cosmonaut Pavel Popovich – Born 1931
Rosalie Shishina – civilian test pilot Yakolev bureau – Born 1928 – Died 1964
Vera Kvasova – nothing known
Ludmilla Solovyova – sports pilot with DOSAAF
??, Yefremova – nothing known
Marina Sokolova – instructor pilot with DOSAAF
Parachutists ??, Borzenkova - nothing known
Valentina Daritcheva - nothing known
Svetlana Ivleva - nothing known
Natalya Maslova – put forward as a member of USSR Parachuting team.
Adding the five successful candidates this gives us 16 names of the 17 (or18) still in contention at this stage.
Other candidates identified, not in final 23:-
Galina Korolkova – graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute – probably a hobby pilot like Ponomaryeva – Born 1933
Tatyana Morozitcheva – colleague of Tereshkova from Yaroslavl – Parachute Champion of USSR in 1968 (I believe this is the person sometimes mentioned as Tatyana Torchillova)
Svetlana Vaslova - put forward as a member of USSR Parachuting
Vera Zoubova - put forward as a member of USSR Parachuting team
The five successful candidates were :-
Tatyana Dmitriyevna Kuznetsova, age 20, Champion Parachutist – member of USSR national team
Valentina Leonidovna Ponomaryeva age 28, Aviation Engineer, USSR Academy of Sciences
Irina Bayanovna Solovyeva, age 24, Champion Parachutist – Captain of USSR national team
Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, age 24, Spinning Technologist and club parachutist
Zhanna Dmitriyevna Yorkina, age 22, Pedagogics Teacher and club parachutist
I will post some images in follow on message.
Hope this is of interest

Tony,
Great info, very interesting to read.
Btw, while on a subject of space exploration. There is a book called "Russian Spacesuits" which, as its name suggests, covers all (or almost all) of Russian made space suits. Personally, as aviation gear enthusiast, I didn't find it all too useful as it only brifly coveres high altitude flight suits, but I'm sure that someone into space gear will find plenty of useful information there. It's sold on Ebay and is rather cheap...
Cheers,
Alexei
